Our Story

PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE

Redwood Meadows Golf Club

NOT JUST A GOLF COURSE

In 1940, a brush fire had destroyed most of the area known as Redwood Meadows. The Elders of the Tsuut’ina Nation noticed that after the brush fire, the regrowth of the poplar and spruce trees had a reddish colour to them. The Elders then called this area “Redwood Yard”.

In 1972, the Tsuut’ina Nation embarked on an economic development endeavor, to construct an 18 hole championship golf course.

The architects, Bill Newis and Stan Leonard took full advantage of the spectacular natural terrain. There are water hazards on seven holes, filled with crystal clear mountain water, straight from the Rockies.

Redwood Meadows meets the criteria of a truly memorable course having 18 individual and distinctive holes, yet retaining a collective continuity from the first tee to the last green.

For golfers, Redwood Meadows is a paradise. A genuine challenge of championship caliber where birds and wildlife of all descriptions may well be your companions during your round.

REDEFINING PAR FOR THE COURSE

We didn’t just set out to create a golf course – we wanted to deliver an experience that is as exciting as it is beautiful.

In 2021 we began a major renovation, and elevated the course to bring it up to the standards of what is expected of a world class golf course. With freshly renovated greens, it’s a whole new game at Redwood Meadows.

We’re pro team… and we mean really pro

Our fully staffed team are pros at everything they do, from the course, to the kitchen. We’re all here to help make your experience at Redwood Meadows one worth remembering.

If you need help on your long game, or just need help getting something to eat after your game, we’re here to help.

Meet Our Team

Paddy Big Plume

General Manager

As the General Manager, Paddy oversees three departments: the Pro Shop, Maintenance, and Redwood Yards. She is also the person you will be connected with when you apply for a membership. Paddy is the resident expert here, as she has been with the Redwood Meadows Golf Club for over 32 years. She began in 1990 as an accountant, then moved into an Assistant Manager/Accountant role in 2000. In 2005 she started her current position of General Manager. Her philosophy in work and in life is to treat people the way you want to be treated - with honesty and kindness - which in turn makes both rewarding.

Ryan Whitney

Golf Course Superintendent

Ryan oversees all of Redwood Meadows' turf needs, such as mowing, fertility and aeration, which is why the course looks so amazing every day. He has worked in the golf industry for over 20 years and is a member of the AGSA and CGSA (15 years). Ryan leads by example. He works hard alongside his staff and is very hands-on so you will rarely catch him in the office. In the winter months he can be found at the hockey rink coaching for Tsuut'ina Minor Hockey, a role he has held for 13 years. Ryan has three sons, ages 20, 12, and 7.

Kevin Black

Head Professional

A member of the PGA of Canada since 2001, Kevin joined Redwood Meadows in 2015. He fell in love with the Redwood Meadows course while playing the 2004 Nationwide Tour event. He claims that while his performance wasn’t memorable, the course absolutely was.

Kevin is excited about the green renovations that took place in 2021. “The opportunity to work with Gary Browning and Goodwin Golf was an invaluable experience.” He is happy with the way the updates came together, and states that the course was transformed yet still maintains the characteristics that made the course special to begin with.

Luke Luciano

Teaching Professional

After joining the PGA of Canada in 2019, Luke joined us at Redwood Meadows in 2020. Luke believes everyone can develop more consistency and lower their scores while still enjoying the game. As an instructor, his goal is to keep lessons simple, never overwhelming students. It’s important to Luke that his students have a clear understanding of the lesson he is giving, and what it’ll do for their game.

He’s a strong believer that setup, alignment, ball position and grip are easily overlooked, meaning they need to be addressed before looking at a golfer’s swing. As a coach, he wants every person he teaches to feel comfortable, have some laughs, and leave each lesson feeling like it was a positive experience.

Luke loves the combination of challenge and fairness at Redwood Meadows, as well as the welcoming vibe from members and their pure love of golf.
